General
The most common orbital tumors in children are benign and include dermoid cyst, capillary hemangioma, lymphangioma, and inflammatory pseudotumor. Rhabdomyosarcoma is uncommon but is the most important malignant childhood orbital tumor.
The most common orbital tumors in adults include cavernous hemangioma, neurilemoma, lacrimal gland tumors, lymphoma, metastasis, and inflammatory pseudotumor.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis is based on many clinical features including the patient's systemic and ocular examination.
Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are quite important and assist in identifying the tumor location, character, vascularity, and effect on surrounding structures.
Fine needle aspiration biopsy in employed for difficult cases.
Treatment
Many treatment methods are available including excisional biopsy through the eyelid or conjunctiva, incisional biopsy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and orbital exenteration (for more advanced tumors).
